Breaking Bad Finale: How Does Walt Die?

With the series finale of Breaking Bad just a few days away, now’s our last chance to take our best guesses as to how it all ends for Walter White. After all, all bad things must come to an end.

Walt dies in a gunfight. This seems like the most obvious choice. Walt has a machine gun, and the most obvious target of his bullets wis Jack, Todd, and the rest of the Nazis. If this is the case, it feels like a suicide mission. Their crew packs a lot of firepower, and Walt’s just one guy (without a ton of machine gun experience, mind you), so if he starts something, it seems likely that they’ll finish it.

Walt dies of lung cancer. Let’s not forget, one of the main plot points of the show has always been Walt’s lung cancer; it’s why he got into the meth business to begin with. The cancer took a backseat in the show’s middle seasons, but it has come roaring back in the last few episodes, epic coughing fits and all. Since there’s no Heisenberg without lung cancer, it would be perfectly acceptable if that’s what takes him out in the end. Also, physicist Werner Heisenberg, the namesake of Walt’s alter-ego, died of cancer, so there’s that.

Walt commits suicide. We know Walt has the vial of ricin, but we don’t know who it’s for. Might it be for himself? Walt likely wants to go out on his own terms, and he can read the writing on the wall (not just the graffiti that says “Heisenberg”), so after he takes care of whatever business he needs to take care of, there’s a strong chance he ingests the poison and waits it out.

Jesse kills Walt. After all of the suffering Jesse’s gone through, especially in the past couple of episodes, we don’t think he’d pass up an opportunity to kill Walt if given the chance. The two of them have to cross paths again, they just have to, and with Jesse losing Andrea and learning the truth about Jane’s death, their meeting may not go so well for Walt.

Walt doesn’t die. This possibility seems unlikely, but you never know. Walt may just kill everyone in Albuquerque and sit atop the rubble, channeling Ozymandias. If this is the case, we really hope he does so while wearing his tighty whities. It’s the only way.

How do you think it ends for Walt? Sound off in the comments!

Catch the Breaking Bad finale Sunday, September 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
