Did You Miss Finn in Glee’s Season 5 Premiere?

While we watched Klaine’s proposal unfold like a beautiful fairytale, we couldn’t help but feel a little sad. We were happy for Kurt and Blaine — it was nice to see them have a magical moment that rivaled when they first met — but we felt like there was someone missing.

We knew it was going to be hard to watch Glee Season 5 after Cory Monteith’s tragic death, but watching gleeks past and present congratulate Kurt and Blaine left a giant lump in our throats. We miss Finn.

There was only one reference to the former McKinley quarterback in the Season 5 opener. As Rachel laments on the bridge in Central Park — where she and Finn had their New York City date — she takes out her phone and gazes at a photo of the original glee club. Somewhere in that photo of fresh faces and high school sophomores stood Finn Hudson, the goofy kid who once saw Jesus in his grilled cheese.

It was a subtle nod to Cory and the show Glee used to be — the show he helped turn into a hit. We were a little disappointed that Ryan Murphy and Co. decided to edit out all other references to Finn. It was a little jarring not to see his smiling face next to his step-brother when Kurt said yes to Blaine’s proposal.

And as light and fun as the Season 5 premiere tried to be, there was still a sense of looming sadness amidst the joy and harmless fluff.

What do you think, Gleeks? Did you miss Finn as much as we did in the premiere? What did you think of the Season 5 premiere? Sound off in the comments!
