HGTV Stars Tarek El Moussa and Wife Christina Expecting Second Child
HGTV star Tarek El Moussa is still on the mend after his battle with Thyroid cancer — which he was diagnosed with in June 2013 — but now there’s something to celebrate. Turns out he and Flip or Flop wife/co-host Christina are expecting their second child and it’s a boy!
“We found out Tarek had cancer, and we asked the doctor if that would affect our chances of having a child,” Christina told People about the nearly year-long struggle to conceive. “They said that if you go through radiation, which Tarek had to, then you should not get pregnant from that sperm from six months to a year. So, right away, we did sperm banking and [tried] IVF.”
After two failed IVF attempts — including a miscarriage at eight weeks — Christina decided to switch doctors, who then put her on a strict regimen planned over Christmas break so it wouldn’t mess with work schedules. This meant that, during her first trimester, Christina couldn’t even pick up daughter Taylor at all. But don’t worry, Christina says Taylor “understood” because she “really wanted a sibling.”
Now — at 20 weeks along — Christina is free from those restrictions and is able to get back in the swing of things, which includes exercise. Having only gained 10 pounds or so, Christina says she’s trying to “not gain too much” weight. Whatever tummy Christina does have, though, is great for Taylor who talks to her unborn brother “all the time.”
So how does Tarek feel to be expecting his first son? Overjoyed, of course!
“I’m going to raise him as a good man. I’m going to make him a superior athlete, make sure he gets good grades and hopefully plays college baseball,” Tarek says. “And he’s going to run the family business one day. he’s not going to go off on his own. I’m just kidding, it’s exciting to have a son and a daughter. The second he gets old enough, I’m going to step back from work and focus on raising them.”
Congrats to Tarek, Christina, and Taylor!
Flip or Flop Season 3 premieres Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV.
