Fred Armisen Leaving Saturday Night Live (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The news is confirmed — Fred Armisen is definitely, for real exiting SNL. And he's surprised that anyone is the least bit shocked.

"I think it's clear. I didn't do any kind of official announcement, but I really felt like it was obvious," Fred said in an interview with Splitsider. "An ending that was a love letter to all the music I grew up with, and also to my friends and to SNL and to Lorne [Michaels] and to the cast. There was a lot of emotion attached to it, but it was a very positive emotion."

Jason Sudeikis's fate on SNL is still undecided.

So long, Fred! Well, sort of — we'll still see his weirder side on Portlandia well into the forseeable future!

Fred Armisen Reportedly Leaving SNL, "Probably" Jason Sudeikis, Too

This week's Saturday Night Live finale is going to involve a whole bunch of tearful goodbyes. What up with that?

Fred Armisen has reportedly decided to leave the show, meaning that this weekend's episode will be his last one, according to the New York Post.

Plus, the same source is reporting that Jason Sudeikis will "probably" leave the show after this season as well. NBC has yet to comment.

These two stalwarts join Bill Hader and Seth Meyers on the now-lengthy list of cast members who are bidding the show farewell after this week.

Fred has been with the sketch comedy show for 11 seasons, while Jason who is engaged to Olivia Wilde has been a performer on the show for eight seasons following a few years as just a writer on the show.

Fred has been staying busy with his other sketch show, Portlandia, and Jason has a busy film career, as he stars in this summer's We're the Millers opposite Jennifer Aniston.

Jason who impersonated Mitt Romney was widely assumed to be leaving the show after last November's election, but he has stuck around for the remainder of the season.

Saturday Night Live? More like, Saturday night leaving.
