DJ Tanner or Winnie Cooper? Full House or The Wonder Years? You don't have to prefer one over the other, but it's only natural to play favorites with TV shows, even if you love both Danica McKellar and Candace Cameron Bure on Dancing With the Stars Season 18.
Candace has been feeding this "rivalry," in a way — she revealed her ex-boyfriend Jeremy Miller dumped her for Danica, and she said she actually wanted the role of Winnie Cooper herself. So Entertainment Weekly asked the cast and pros to pick a side — Full House or The Wonder Years?
Ice dancers Charlie White and Meryl Davis both picked Full House; Charlie said his dog's name is DJ Tanner (!) and Meryl said she made her family call her DJ for a year or so in her life. So, Candace, if you hear "Here, DJ!" in the ballroom, they may be calling Meryl or Charlie's dog, not you. Candace's own partner Mark Ballas admitted he used to watch The Wonder Years. "That's why I wanted to be Winnie Cooper!" Candace said. She wanted to kiss Fred Savage in the pilot episode.
Amy Purdy said she watched Wonder Years; her pro partner Derek Hough said he didn't get to watch much of either show but he saw more of Full House. Pro Emma Slater was raised in Britain and they didn't have Full House where she was, but she was able to watch The Wonder Years at 3:30 p.m. after school every day.
James Maslow picked The Wonder Years, saying he's worked with some people from that show. "But I also want to throw out that I was born in 1990, so I'm barely going to have any memories from that show." Yeah, it went off the air when he was 3. On the opposite side of the spectrum is 55-year-old Drew Carey, who offered this perspective: "Tom Bergeron goes 'Every guy in America once had a crush on Danica,' and I was like 'Not me, man. I'm not a pedophile!’ I was already a grown man when that show was on.'" Um, good point!
So now it's your turn: Were you a bigger fan of Full House or The Wonder Years? Has that translated into which star you're supporting on Season 18 or are you keeping those faves separate?
DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
