Gabourey Sidibe: Why I Really Wanted to Play Gay

Gabourey Sidibe is fulfilling a longtime desire — she's going gay!

OK, calm down. It's just for a movie.

The 30-year-old Brooklyn native — who so memorably bewitched us as Queenie in American Horror Story: Coven — stars in the upcoming comedy Life Partners, and she relished the chance to switch sexualities for the role.

"I just really wanted to play a lesbian, which I guess is sort of nerdy," she tells Out. "My best friend in the entire world is a lesbian and I just thought it would be fun."

Life Partners — which just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival — focuses on two co-dependent best friends, Sasha (Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester) and Paige (Community's Gillian Jacobs).

Paige vows to abstain from marriage until same-sex marriage is legal for Sasha, but that pact is complicated when Paige meets the swoon-worthy Tim (The O.C.'s Adam Brody).

Once Gabourey got on set, though — and started playing her lesbian character, Jen — she realized that the experience wasn't different after all.

"It's all about the story, and it's the same thing. It's the same as playing a straight person," she explains. "But I really did like it, because this character got to be a little bit of a pimp."

Hey, we're down to see a pimped-out Gabby. Bring it on!
