Gabrielle Union’s New Show, Being Mary Jane, Gets Premiere Date
It's been a darn good year for actress Gabrielle Union. Not only did she and NBA boyfriend Dwyane Wade get back together after a brief split, but the 40-year-old beauty (yes, 40!) also landed a starring role in a new BET drama series, Being Mary Jane, premiering January 7, 2014 at 10 p.m. ET. And even better news? Being Mary Jane has reportedly been renewed for Season 2!
Gabrielle couldn't be more stoked about the new gig, and even took to Instagram to share her excitement with fans. "Can't wait…" she teased, along with a promo picture of her character hanging out the side of bathtub covered in Post-It notes accompanied by the tagline "beautifully flawed."
So what's Mary Jane's deal? According to the official show synopsis, this girl has it all — brains, beauty, and a successful career as a TV news anchor. The only thing missing? You guessed it — Mr. Right. But don't worry, there are going to be plenty of potential Mr. Rights for Mary Jane, including Andre Daniels, played by mega hottie Omari Hardwick.
Being Mary Jane made its TV debut back in July as a pilot/movie to rave reviews from critics, with Entertainment Weeklycalling it "surprisingly funny, fresh, and affecting," and the L.A. Timeshailing it "thematically ambitious with a strong and nuanced cast." As the titular character, Gabrielle gets glowing reviews as well. The L.A. Times commends her for combining "daytime television talking points with cable-worthy character depth."
Sounds like a must-watch! To catch Gabrielle Union in Being Mary Jane, tune in to BET on Tuesday, January 7 at 10 p.m. ET.
