Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff talk about some of the implications of the events in the most recent episode, Season 3, Episode 7: “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” in a video released by HBO. What do they have to say?
Talisa’s surprise pregnancy: They say that the scene was more about showing the love between Talisa and Robb than about moving the plot forward. Does this mean the pregnancy won’t be a major plot point (hard to believe if she lives)? Or maybe it’s an indicator that Talisa won’t be around for much longer... We’ll have to wait and see.
Tywin and Joffrey: Tywin is the one who is really in control (duh), and the only one unaware of this is Joffrey (double duh). This is the first real interplay between the two characters, and it allows us to see Tywin wield some power over Joffrey, which so far no one else has been able to do.
Daenerys: Dany continues to be “breaker of chains,” and Weiss and Benioff believe the reason is very personal. She was sold against her will in the beginning of the series, and that fuels her hatred for slavery. She now has a real purpose for wanting the Iron Throne other than just being a Targaryen: she would use it to make the world a better place. What a novel idea!
Arya: They also discuss Arya’s current state of mind. Her short life has been filled with almost nothing but tragedy, and this has helped given her the mindset that all the only truths in the world are death... and revenge. Oh Arya, we hope your luck changes soon!
