Just in case there aren’t enough weddings taking place on Game of Thrones this season, Sean Parker, the billionaire founding president of Facebook, is reportedly going ahead with his plans to have an elaborate, $10 million GoT-themed wedding in California.
Parker, who also founded Napster and was portrayed in the film The Social Network by Justin Timberlake, is planning to wed singer-songwriter Alexandra Lenas on June 1 at the Ventana Inn & Spa in Big Sur. The ceremony is apparently based on GoT and similar fantasy fiction, reportedly featuring an elaborate set of ruins and scenery reminiscent of the show. Since that's obviously not enough, Parker has also hired The Lord of the Rings costume designer Ngila Dickson to outfit the wedding guests in appropriate attire.
These elaborate plans hit a snag when the California Coastal Commission and Monterey County both started investigating the wedding, claiming that neither Parker nor the Ventana Inn applied for the necessary permits to recreate Westeros on the beach. You mean you can't go around building what appears to be essentially a movie set at whim? Who knew!
While the investigation is ongoing, the wedding is still on track to take place this weekend, reports the Monterey Herald. Though we have to wonder: Is it wise to hold a GoT-themed wedding on the same weekend that the Red Wedding is to take place on the show? Maybe not, but we’re still hoping for a raven to deliver our invitation just the same!
Does this wedding sound awesome, or is it too much? What would your dream Game of Thrones wedding look like?
