Game of Thrones fans know Aidan Gillen as the forever-scheming Lord Petyr Baelish, or Littlefinger, but Aidan has had a number of memorable roles over the years. In addition to GoT, he also starred in Queer as Folk and The Wire, but it was his role in The Dark Knight Rises that really impressed the most important people in his life: his kids.
Gillen reveals to The Daily Mail, “I totally did that job for them, to get some cred with them. They might not be too bothered with some of the stuff I’ve done over the years, but, Batman’s another matter.” It sounds to us like his kids are pretty harsh critics; he’s great as Littlefinger!
For those who need a refresher, Aidan was featured in the opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises as a government agent who held Bane captive on a plane--but things didn’t go so well for him. Aidan says, “I was only on that job for a few days and by the time I was doing scenes when I was falling out of an aeroplane I realised , ‘Oh man! That’s it!’. The job was done.” We kind of wish that his role had been expanded, to have him be the brains behind the villains’ whole plan. It’s what Littlefinger would have done!
At the end of the day though, Aidan was thankful for his role in the film, no matter how small it was. He says, “Even just to get one scene in the Batman film was exciting, for me and for them [his children].” Thankfully for us, he gets more than one scene as Littlefinger on GoT, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next season. Whatever it is, we’re sure his kids will be proud!
