With Season 3 of Game of Thrones long over, it’s time to turn our attention to what may lie ahead in Season 4. Since GoT is based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, we can make some good guesses about how the story will play out next season, at least in broad strokes. Here are our predictions about what's coming up for the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys, based on the latter half of A Storm of Swords.

Dany Continues Her Tour of Slaver’s Bay. Having already freed the slaves in Astapor and Yunkai, the next and final stop on Dany’s voyage across beautiful Slaver’s Bay is Mereen. The city sends a champion in front of its walls challenging to face someone from Dany’s army, as a show of force. In the book, Danys sends Strong Belwas, a former slave fighter who joins her as a companion of Barristan Selmy, to face the champion. Belwas defeats him and Dany’s army gets super-psyched. Since the show has left Belwas out so far, we could see this scene being performed by Daario, Grey Worm, or Ser Jorah, or being left out entirely.
Dany Takes Mereen. Dany has a few of her best men sneak into the city to release some slaves to take Mereen from within. This is more or less how the show treated Dany’s conquering of Yunkai, so we may see a different strategy here. Maybe the dragons will play a role in the show, they’re always a popular choice! No matter how they approach it though, this much is certain: once all is said and done, Mereen belongs to Dany.
So Long, Ser Jorah. Dany learns about Ser Jorah Mormont spying on her for King Robert way back in season 1, and she’s so upset about it she boots him from her camp. At this point though it’s unclear though how she’ll find out about his treason. In the book, it’s Barristan Selmy who provides Dany with this information, but the show has already addressed this issue, with Jorah asking Barristan about the goings-on in the king’s small council and Barristan claiming he didn’t sit on the council. Maybe Barristan does know the truth after all and just wasn’t sharing it with Jorah at that time, or maybe Jorah is going to let the info slip himself. It’s also possible that she will send him away for a different reason entirely, likely one involving his jealousy of Daario, which seems to be a plot point that the show is pushing. Whatever the reason, we expect Ser Jorah to find himself in exile once again.
Dany Becomes A Queen. Whoa! Did we just skip ahead to the end of the series?! Settle down, it;s not Queen of the Seven Kingdoms: she only becomes Queen of Mereen (hey, that rhymes!). After hearing that Astapor went down the tubes after she freed all of its slaves (shocker), she decides to be a more responsible conqueror. So she declares herself Queen of Mereen, where she will stay and rule over all of the freed slaves (and their former masters).
That’s pretty much it for Dany’s plotline in the second half of A Storm of Swords, and as you can see, not a ton of stuff happens. It’s possible that the show may invent some new drama for her, or pull some plot from the very Dany-centric fifth book of the series, A Dance With Dragons. Some options could be Dany and Daario taking their relationship to the next level (cue Marvin Gaye), growing unrest among the other slave cities (and within Mereen), and Dany’s dragons causing problems (i.e. eating children). Whichever direction the show decides to go, we’re sure the new queen will have plenty to do in Season 4!
