With Season 3 of Game of Thrones over, it’s now time to turn our attention to what may lie ahead in Season 4. Since GoT is based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, we can make some good guesses about how the story will play out next season, at least in broad strokes. Here are our predictions about what's coming up for the show’s most frustrating character, Sansa, based on the latter half of A Storm of Swords.

Sansa Plans an Escape. Sansa blew her chance to escape King’s Landing with Littlefinger back when she was under the impression that she was going to marry Ser Loras rather than Tyrion, which she immediately regretted. But Sansa may have another ally in the capital. Way back in Season 2, during the tourney of Joffrey’s nameday (GoT-speak for birthday) Dontos showed up drunk for his joust. Joffrey decided to drown him in wine (makes sense) until Sansa spoke up that it would be bad luck to kill someone on his birthday. Joff decided to let Dantos live as a fool, leaving Dontos indebted to Sansa. In the books, Dontos then begins to tell Sansa of his plan to help her escape King’s Landing, which we learn later was orchestrated by Littlefinger behind the scenes.
It appeared the show was going to leave this plotline out, since Littlefinger has been very upfront about his desire to rescue Sansa, but showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss claim Ser Dontos will return. Therefore, it's possible he'll show back up in Season 4 and start scheming with Sansa.
Sansa Makes Her Escape. At Joffrey’s wedding, Joff is poisoned and dies (about which Sansa is ecstatic) and Sansa is able to sneak away from the ceremony during all the commotion. In the books, she meets up with Ser Dontos, as they had planned, and he leads her to a hidden ship where, surprise surprise, Littlefinger is waiting. He tells her that he orchestrated Joffrey’s murder with the Tyrells, though he’s not sure which of them actually poisoned the king. In case people hadn’t already figured it out, no one should mess with Littlefinger.
Whether or not Dantos is directly involved, we expect Sansa to escape with Littlefinger during Joffrey's wedding.
Sansa Gets a New Name. Since Littlefinger is on his way to the Vale to marry Lysa Arryn as per Tywin Lannister’s command, he can’t very well show up with the wife of Tywin’s son. So he gives Sansa a new identity, and she becomes Alayne Stone, Littlefinger’s bastard daughter. Think of it as a Westerosi witness protection program. When they arrive, Littlefinger quickly marries Lysa, who has loved him all her life and is super-psyched to marry him.
Littlefinger Reveals His True Motive. Which is: He wants to do inappropriate things with Sansa. No real shocker, Littlefinger’s kind of a sleazeball and he is in love with Cat Stark, so since he can’t have her he’s going to hook up with her 14-year-old daughter. He kisses Sansa — not like a father-daughter kiss, but a real kiss — and Lysa sees it happen. Ruh-roh.
Lysa Arryn is Murdered. If you recall, Lysa lives in that sweet sky castle. So when she sees Sansa and Littlefinger kiss, she freaks out and holds Sansa out the sky door, threatening to drop her. She probably would have, too, but Littlefinger rescues Sansa. He talks Lysa down, telling her that he really only loved one woman. Once Lysa relaxes and lets Sansa go, Littlefinger says the name of the woman he loved: “Cat.” He then pushes Lysa out of the sky door to her death. Conveniently, there’s a singer present in the room, and Littlefinger is able to frame him for the murder.
Conspiracies galore for Sansa next season, how exciting! It will be nice for her to finally get some new surroundings so she can do what she does best and begin misinterpreting the intentions of lots of new people; we can’t wait!
