As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, especially those who happen to be members of the Stark family. So understandably, the question on many fans’ minds heading into next season is: Does Jon Snow die?

Ned Stark’s bastard wasn’t doing so hot the last time we saw him. He had just been pumped full of arrows by his jilted ex-girlfriend and then fell off his horse as soon as he reached Castle Black. We did see him briefly wake up and recognize Pyp (even though many viewers probably didn’t, he’d been gone for a while), but he could still easily die of his wounds. So will he?

Rest easy, Jon Snow fans. Unless the show makes some major changes to the book, Jon should recover from his wounds just fine. He’ll limp around for a while, but next season should have some big plans for the bastard, so we don’t expect him to be laid up for too long.

Even though Jon Snow is safe for now, that doesn’t mean he won’t flirt with death again later on in the show. In the last published book in A Song of Ice and Fire, upon which Game of Thrones is based, Jon’s story ends in a cliffhanger, with him being stabbed numerous times. It remains unclear if he lives or dies... But he probably lives.
