As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, no matter how popular they are among fans, and recent teasers suggest that fan fave Tyrion Lannister could be in real danger in Season 4. But could the most likable Lannister actually lose his life? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

Tyrion’s luck has been in a free-fall since the end of Season 2, when he saved King’s Landing and in return for his services lost his job as Hand and was nearly killed. In Season 3 we saw him repeatedly dressed down by his father and then forced into an arranged marriage. Will Season 4 be the one where Tyrion’s losses continue to mount to the point where death is his only escape?

We know for sure that Tyrion will face some major adversity in Season 4. He’s going to be framed for Joffrey’s murder. He’s going to have a trial with his life on the line. And he’s going to lose. We’ll see Tyrion stare death in the face... But death is going to blink first.

Have no fear, Tyrion-lovers! Unless the show suddenly diverges crazily from the A Song of Ice and Fire books, Tyrion will survive all the craziness we expect to go down in Season 4 and he’s going to come out smelling like, well, not roses since he’s not a Tyrell. Let’s say he’ll come out smelling like a lion because even though Tyrion survives, he makes damn sure that some others do not.

Are you happy that Tyrion lives to see Season 5? Sound off in the comments!
