Game of Thrones Season 4 premiere is still a long ways away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited about all of the new characters we’re going to see! As usual, GoT is going to expand upon its already mammoth cast (while also taking away some familiar faces) so let’s take a look at the new additions we’re most excited for.

The Red Viper, Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) Any conversation regarding the new faces of season four must begin with the Red Viper. He’s one of the most popular characters in the book series, and he plays a very important role in Tyrion’s storyline next season. Plus, his fight with the Mountain is arguably the most-anticipated scene coming up in Season 4.

Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) While Mace is certainly not as exciting as Oberyn, we’re still looking forward to having the Tyrell patriarch hanging around King’s Landing next season. Why? Because Cersei hates the Tyrells, and a snippy, angry Cersei makes for great television. Plus, Mace is kind of an inept power-groper, so it should be entertaining to watch him try and uncomfortably wiggle his way into having more influence.

Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) While the Red Viper’s paramour doesn’t have a huge part in the books, the casting of Rome alum Indira Varma suggests the show may expand her role a bit. This should be good news for us, because she and Oberyn have a very, let’s say, adventurous, relationship.

Styr, Magnar of Thenn (?) The fierce wildling leader has been confirmed as a character for season 4, though we’re not sure who’s playing him yet. So far, the best candidate we’ve seen is Joseph Gatt, who shares quite a resemblance with the book’s description of Styr. Whoever plays him, Styr should make for a good new antagonist for Jon Snow in Season 4, and we can always use another great villain!
