As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, no matter how popular they are amongst fans. So, should we be worried about the fate of one of the show’s biggest badasses, Brienne of Tarth, in Season 4? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

Brienne went through some trials and tribulations last season, most notably being the time she had to fight a bear, but she managed to make it out alive (thanks in part to her BFF Jaime). Now that Brienne has safely delivered Jaime back to King’s Landing, does that mean she’s become expendable as a character?

Let’s face it: Jaime isn’t returning in the same condition that he left in, he’s missing a hand! And not just any hand, mind you, but his sword hand, rendering him fairly useless as a knight. One would think that someone has to pay for that, and since he was in Brienne’s care, might she take the blame and face the king’s justice?

Relax. Jaime wouldn’t let that happen to his ol’ pal Brienne! Jaime has become very protective of Brienne, and as long as they’re in the same city, he’ll see that no harm comes to her. Jaime even steps in when Loras Tyrell sees her and wants to kill her, thinking she’s responsible for the death of his old flame Renly. At some point in Season 4 though, Jaime is probably going to send Brienne off on her own to try and locate Sansa Stark and bring her to safety, so she can keep the promise they made to the late Cat Stark. Once that happens and Brienne is on her own, all bets are off, but we know for sure she’ll survive at least until Season 5!

Are you happy that Brienne lives to see Season 5? Sound off in the comments!
