Game of Thrones has added yet another cast member to the already monstrous cast of Season 4: Paola Dionisotti will be playing the role of Anya Waynwood. Anya Waynwood is the head of House Waynwood, which is one of the major houses of the Vale. The principal house of the Vale, if you recall, is House Arryn, which is currently led by Cat Stark’s crazy sister, Lysa. In Season 3, Littlefinger was sent away from King’s Landing to the Vale so he could seduce Lysa and then bring House Arryn and the rest of the Vale in league with the Lannisters in their war with the North. Littlefinger is going to make it to the Vale next season to seduce Lysa, but he’s not going alone.

After the wedding of Margaery and Joffrey, Sansa is going to flee King’s Landing, and she’s going to end up with Littlefinger. She poses as his daughter to avoid suspicion, and they go to the Vale together, where Littlefinger weds Lysa Arryn. Things quickly go south though, when Lysa sees Littlefinger kiss Sansa in a very non-fatherly way. Lysa threatens to kill Sansa, but instead ends up getting killed herself by Littlefinger. So, where does Anya Waynwood fit into all of this?

Once Lysa dies, Littlefinger alone is Protector of the Vale. Anya Waynwood and the other heads of the houses of the Vale are none too pleased about this, and they stand against Littlefinger. Eventually though, Littlefinger is able to charm and bribe his way into their favor, with Anya becoming one of his chief supporters. Littlefinger even pays off House Waynwood’s debt, leaving them, and Anya, indebted to him. As part of their settlement, Anya agrees to marry her ward, Harrold Hardyng, to Sansa, whom Anya knows as Alayne Stone, bastard daughter of Littlefinger. Harrold is heir to the Vale after Robert Arryn, Lysa’s son, whom Littlefinger will likely going to try yo eliminate. Littlefinger’s plan is for Sansa to reveal herself as a Stark at her eventual wedding to Harrold, uniting the Vale and the North against the Lannisters.

Phew. There’s a lot going on in the Vale, so we may not get to all of it next season, but as you can see, even the actions of a minor character like Anya Waynwood can have major implications on this show!
