Any form of media based on a previous work will always see its interpretation compared to the original. Such is the case with Game of Thrones, which is based on the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. Fortunately, the Game of Thrones casting department is brilliant at its job, as some of the show’s characters seem to have been plucked directly from the pages of the books. But who is the most perfectly cast actor on the show?

Check out our picks for best casting choices, then sound off with your own thoughts in the comments!

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark. Maisie embodies the feisty Stark girl so well, it’s hard to believe that this is her first acting role. Maisie pulls off Arya’s dirty tomboy look with ease, and she also has the emotional range to showcase Arya’s depression and rage.

John Bradley-West as Samwell Tarly. John has the perfect look for Sam. He’s the right body size and has a completely innocent-looking face, while still being believable as having considerable brains underneath. His voice is also perfect, since he’s capable of reaching an almost whiny tone when Sam gets really scared (which is almost always).

Carice van Houten as Melisandre. Melisandre needs to be three things: Creepy, sexy, and a red-head. Check, check, and check. While Carice is a natural brunette, her red locks on the show give her an almost other-worldly appearance. And those eyes... We can never tell if she’s going to kill someone or kiss them.

Rory McCann as The Hound. Rory is big and scary, two of the Hound’s main features, but he's also capable of showing the character’s softside underneath. There’s an expression he makes, when he wants to show the world how bad he is but the good comes out, that is just perfect.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister. Jaime is supposed to look like a golden Prince Charming, and Nikolaj could pull that off in his sleep; you could cut a steak with that jawline. What makes Nikolaj so great isn’t just his looks, though — he also lets Jaime’s humanity show through in what has to be one of the show’s most difficult roles.

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister. While Peter is considerably less hideous than the Tyrion of the books, we really can’t imagine anyone else in this role. Peter has brought Tyrion, who series author George R. R. Martinconsiders to be his favorite character, to life and made him arguably the show’s most popular character as well. Plus, his comic timing is perfect for capturing the wit and wisdom of Tyrion Lannister.
