With Game of Thrones Season 3 a distant memory, it’s now time to turn our attention to what may lie ahead in Season 4. Since GoT is based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF), we can make some good guesses about how the story will play out next season, at least in broad strokes. Here are our predictions about what's coming up for the Lord Commander of Dany’s Queensguard, Ser Barristan Selmy, based on the latter half of A Storm of Swords.

Disclaimer: Of course, the show may cut plot elements or even completely alter Barristan's story. These are spoilers based on the books only.
Note: A number of Barristan’s major plot points in A Storm of Swords have already been altered in the show. Dany already knows his true identity, since he never hid it from her in the show. Also, he will not need to rescue her from the Titan’s Bastard, since he’s already been killed by Daario.
Wandering the sewers. For the next slave city on Dany’s conquering tour, Mereen, the only way in is through the sewers. Barristan’s going to lead a group of elite soldiers in through the sewers to open the gates, and Dany’s going to conquer Mereen. Piece of (urinal) cake! Of course, the writers already had Barristan, Daario, and Grey Worm use a similar strategy to take Yunkai, so it's possible they'll change up this plot. Whatever happens, we expect Barristan to be part of the action.
Ratting out Jorah. There was a scene in Season 3 when Jorah was trying to figure out if Barristan knew that he was previously spying on Dany for King Robert, and Barristan pretended as if he didn’t know anything. Well, at least in the books, it turns out he actually does know that Jorah was a spy, and he’s going to tell Dany, probably after he’s had enough of Jorah’s jealousy towards him, Daario, and anyone else who talks to Dany. It's also possible that the show will twist up this plot some. Perhaps it's true Barristan doesn't know the truth now, but he will figure it out at some point and then tell his queen. Whatever happens, Dany’s not going to take the news well, and she’s going to exile Jorah.
Professor Barristan. Once Dany stays in Mereen and becomes Queen, Barristan becomes her most important advisor. He counsels her on how to rule, he educates her about Targaryen history (including her mad father), and he begins training some of her freedmen followers to be knights. Overall, he ends up being the most essential member of Dany’s entourage, effectively replacing the ousted Jorah.
