While it may seem like we have to wait for a time when the sun rises in the west and sets in the east before Season 4 of Game of Thrones begins, we can at least speculate on what we think will occur on the show based on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which GoT is based on. Specifically, what’s going to happen in the mysterious land beyond the Wall?

Note: These are spoilers based primarily on the ASOIAF books. Obviously, the show could change things for TV.

The Invasion. Mance Rayder and his wildling army are going to finally make their big assault on the Wall, and it’s going to be one major battle. Mance’s army is huge, so expect to see a spectacle at least on par with the Battle of Blackwater back in Season 2. We really hope the show doesn’t skimp on the giants either; Mance has got a bunch of ‘em!

The Rescue. With the Night’s Watch effectively losing the battle, Jon Snow is sent beyond the Wall to assassinate Mance. Jon isn’t crazy about the idea, and he's saved the trouble when Stannis, of all people, shows up with an army and scatters the wildlings. Thanks to Stannis, Mance is defeated and taken into custody, where he and Melisandre debate what to do with him.

Zombies! Elsewhere North of the Wall, Bran is making his way toward his destiny, though he’s not sure what that is yet. Though no new casting has been announced, we expect (and hope!) Bran will meet a new guide whom he nicknames “Coldhands,” because he’s a wight (AKA zombie) with their typical cold, black hands. Coldhands is no ordinary zombie, though. He can talk, and he helps protect Bran on his journey, which includes fending off a ton of other zombies. While we still don’t know for sure if Coldhands has been cast, we really hope the show brings him in next season, as he’s potentially the best thing about Bran’s storyline in Season 4.
