Walda Frey bears relation to two of the most-hated characters on the show for Team Stark members. She is the granddaughter of Walder Frey (note the similarity in naming customs) and she’s also the new wife of Roose Bolton. She has a rather rotund appearance, and in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series is known as “Fat Walda.” Roose’s reason for marrying her is dubious as well; Walder Frey let Roose choose a member of his family to wed with the promise of a dowry equal to the bride’s weight in silver. Roose, shrewd businessman that he is, picked the heaviest option available: Fat Walda.

In the books, Roose is less than enamored with his new bride at first, and routinely burns the letters she writes him while he’s away at war. In time, however, he grows to actually care for her, in large part due to her, ahem, appreciativeness in the bedroom.

While Walda is not an important character by any means, her inclusion next season suggests we’ll be seeing more of Roose Bolton and perhaps Walder Frey, giving us some people to root against besides just the Lannisters.
