With Game of Thrones Season 3 a distant memory, it’s now time to turn our attention to what may lie ahead in Season 4. Since GoT is based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF), we can make some good guesses about how the story will play out next season, at least in broad strokes. Here are our predictions about what's coming up for Theon’s tough-as-nails sister, Yara, based on the latter half of A Storm of Swords and beyond.

Disclaimer: Of course, the show may cut plot elements or even completely alter Yara's story (they already have to some degree). These are spoilers based on the books only.

Ship and Sail: Rescue Reavers. During the Season 3 finale, we witnessed Yara setting off on a ship to rescue her brother Theon after she learns that he’s still alive and being tortured by Ramsay Bolton. What happens next? We’re not entirely sure. This plotline doesn’t exist in the books in any fashion, so kind of in the dark as to how it’s going to pan out. Based on what happens later in the books concerning Theon, though, it seems highly unlikely to us that Yara’s mission will be a success.

King of Salt and Rock. One thing we’re quite sure Yara will have to deal with next season is the passing of her father, Balon Greyjoy. Balon’s death was already set in motion by Melisandre using Gendry’s king’s blood , and we know her spell could be for real because Robb Stark (R.I.P.) was also included in the ritual. Whether you believe in Mel's magic or not, Balon is definitely a gonner based on the books. If Balon dies right before Yara is about to set sail for Theon, we could see her cancel her plans and stick around the Iron Islands, bringing her plot from the show more in line with her story from the books.

A moot point. Eventually, Yara is supposed to participate in a king’s moot on the Iron Islands to select the new King of Salt and Rock after her father dies. However, this would be a moot discussion to have at this time because we haven’t heard of any casting news regarding her uncles, Victarion and Euron, whom she’ll be running against, so we’ll probably have to wait until Season 5 for this development. Also, we really like to say “moot.”
