As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, no matter how popular they are amongst fans. So, should we be worried about the fate of the Princess of the Iron Islands, Yara Greyjoy, in Season 4? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

Let’s just say this right of the bat: Yara (called Asha in A Song of Ice and Fire) does not die in the books. However, she also doesn’t head out on an elaborate rescue mission looking for her brother Theon. Not even a little bit. So, with the show altering her story considerably, might they eliminate her altogether? It wouldn’t be unheard of. The show has killed a number of characters who are still alive in the books, such as Xaro Xhoan Daxos and Irri, so what’s one more? Granted, Yara is a more important character than either of those other characters, but she’s still not so important that she should be considered essential. So will she live through the season?

We think she will. Regardless of what happens on her rescue mission, we still expect Yara back on the Iron Islands at some point after her father dies to take part in the king’s moot. The Iron Islands kings moot is one of the main plot points of the fourth book in the series, A Feast for Crows, and it sets up everything else that happens to the Greyjoy families, which in turn affects others such as the Martells and, hypothetically, Daenerys. So if we had to bet, we’d say Yara’s going to survive, but even if she does get whacked, she’s a Greyjoy: What is dead may never die!
