We know that Game of Thrones prides itself on its gritty medieval image, but this latest revelation from the show’s former star Richard Madden seems like they may take their grittiness too far!

In an interview with Buzzfeed, the actor ,whose character Robb Stark met a memorable end during the Red Wedding in GoT’s third season, says, “[My costume] stank by the end of it. They didn’t wash it between seasons to keep it really authentic, and it was absolutely filthy. So your cloak, your trousers, and your boots are just caked in dirt, and it looks really amazing on camera.” Yep, better not wash those clothes to keep the authenticity intact. Everything on the show needs to be depicted just as it was back in GoT times, right down to the dragons. Oh, wait...

Richard goes on to elaborate, “I’d come back to film, and smell it, and it’s like, ‘Oh! That stinks. It’s just been in a cupboard for six months. Great. I’ll just slip my feet into those nasty boots again.”

Yikes, who ever said being an actor was glamorous?! We wonder if it’s the same for every actor? We can’t imagine the likes of Varys or Littlefinger putting up with much stank!
