Game of Thrones fans know Conleth Hill best as the scheming Master of Whispers, Lord Varys, but, much like on the show, there’s a lot going on under the surface. Here are five facts about Conleth that even the most ardent GoT fan might not know.

1. He’s an accomplished stage actor. So accomplished in fact that Conleth has won two Olivier Awards, the British equivalent of the Tony Awards. He took one home for Best Actor in 2001 for Stones in His Pockets, and another in 2005 for Best Supporting Role in a Musical for the classic The Producers.

2. He wasn’t originally eyed for Varys. We can’t imagine the role of Varys being portrayed by anyone but Conleth, but the actor was originally eyed for another role on the show. According to the Official London Theatre, Conleth was brought in for a different role before becoming Varys, but he hasn’t said which role. We’re guessing it wasn’t Daenerys.

3. If he weren’t an actor, he’d be... He has no idea. Conleth tells What’s on Stage, "I never had a real job ... So, I’ve no idea [what I would do besides act]. I should think of something in case it all goes wrong, eh?"

4. He’s on basic cable, too. Conleth has done an arc on the USA series, Suits, and even acted alongside fellow GoT alum Michelle Fairley (Cat Stark) on the show.

5. He’s not bald! Proof.
