By now, most Game of Thrones fans have watched the official trailer for Season 4 dozens of times, including watching it in slow-motion and backwards to look for any hidden clues (No? Just us? K.) and one thing we’ve noticed about it is that Pedro Pascal’s Red Viper pops up in a number of places. So now that we’ve gotten our first glimpse of him in action, do we think he’s going to do the character justice? The Red Viper is arrogant, sexy, and ferocious, making him one of the more popular characters in A Song of Ice and Fire, so his casting was of the utmost importance to the series’ diehard fans. That’s probably why there was some backlash when the news of Pedro’s casting was first announced because some felt that the character was being whitewashed. The Red Viper of the books is described as being dark and exotic-looking, while Pedro, though Chilean, would be considered white by many people.

However, now that we’ve seen him in action and in a still photo (above), perhaps the opinions of those people may change. Pedro, with his black hair and dark eyes, does certainly have a more exotic look than the other citizens of Westeros with whom he’ll be interacting. And in the brief glimpses we see of him, he appears to have the swagger and confidence of the Red Viper down. Also, he shows off some pretty sweet spear moves against the Mountain, which is probably the most important thing to look for in a Red Viper.

So, what do you think? Does Pedro do the Red Viper justice? Or was his casting a mistake? Vote below and sound off in the comments!
