One of the new faces we’re most looking forward to seeing in Season 4 of Game of Thrones isn’t a new character at all, but rather a new actor filling an old role. With Michiel Huisman now taking the reins of Daario Naharis from Season 3’s Ed Skrein, what changes should we expect with Dany’s new friend going forward?
“Daario is a very direct character,” Michiel tells Zap2it about his version of the character. “And doesn't necessarily tread lightly where other characters might be a little more politically correct when dealing with their leader. That's a little challenging for Dany.”
For those fans who were hoping the new Daario would more closely match the appearance of the character as he’s depicted in the A Song of Ice and Fire books, with his blue beard and gold mustache, Michiel has some disappointing news. “I don't think [the show’s writers] ever considered a blue beard,” Michiel says. “Just because he can be described in the book and you can have the image of the character and that's one thing, but then when you see on a TV show this brutal guy [laughs], this tough guy with a blue beard, it might not work. You know what I mean?”
While it may not be blue, at least this new Daario does have a beard!
Michiel also drops a hint about how Daario’s relationship might progress with Dany this season, following last year’s steamy bathtub scene. “By the end of last season, we know that there's tension [between Dany and Daario] and that's it. I don't really [know] what to say about it without giving anything away. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens there.”
Sounds to us like Dany likes the new Daario!
