At the end of Game of Thrones Season 3, we saw Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) return to his sister/lover Cersei after two seasons of being apart. With premiere of Season 4 just over the horizon, what can we expect from their relationship now that the two are finally back together?

“For [Jaime], it’s been a very traumatic trip,” Nikolaj tells Entertainment Weekly, “But he’s been wanting to get back to this woman [Cersei] for the duration of his trip. You want to just go back to the way it was. But it’s not that easy. A lot has happened in her life as well.”
Nikolaj says of Cersei, “In her mind, he was the strongest soldier, the strongest man and he could always protect her.” We’re guessing she’ll feel differently once she sees that Jaime is now missing his sword hand.
In addition to Jaime’s maiming, he also has changed mentally. He seems to have a new outlook on life thanks to the time he spent on the road with Brienne. Now that Brienne has safely (for the most part) delivered him to King’s Landing, will Jaime keep his promise to Cat Stark and and see the Stark girls to safety?
“There’s a moment where they come back and he’s like: ‘What happened didn’t really happen. Can’t I just become what I was before?’" Nikolaj says. “And she’s like, ‘What about that promise?’ A year ago he would have said, ‘shut up and go away,’ but now it’s like, ‘I guess I have to deal with this’.”
Clearly Jaime cares for Brienne if he’s allowed her to change him so much, so does this mean that Jaime-Brienne shippers should get their hopes up? Not according to Nikolaj, who says, “I don’t think he’s aware of any romance [between Jaime and Brienne].”
Rats. Well, there’s always Season 5!
