At the conclusion of Game of Thrones Season 3, saw incestuous lovers Jaime and Cersei Lannister reunited, but the scene was cut short before we could see them interact. With Season 4 now nearly upon us, what should we expect from these two now that they’re under the same roof again?
Lena Headey, who portrays Cersei, tells Entertainment Weekly, “[Cersei's] trying to reestablish her relationship with Jaime, but it’s changed beyond repair... She believes he can protect her and do what she’s not allowed to as a woman. So, I think when he returns with [his sword hand having been cut off], she’s like: That’s the thing I didn’t have and now you now don’t have it so what do I want you for?”
Lena also goes on to say that she doesn’t think Cersei loves Jaime as much as he loves her. “I think he’s in love with her, but I think Cersei is ever movable — she’s driven by what she needs,” Lena continues. “I think Jaime is more of a chess figure for her than somebody she would do anything for.”
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime, agrees. “I think he loves her more,” the actor reveals to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s always been unbalanced, and that’s never good.” Jaime’s had a long journey back to Cersei, and he’s going to find things just aren’t the same now that he’s back. “He’s been wanting to get back to [Cersei] for the duration of his trip,” Nikolaj says. “You want to just go back to the way it was. But it’s not that easy. A lot has happened in her life as well.”
Season 4 of Game of Thrones premieres April 6 on HBO
