On Game of Thrones, Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Renly Baratheon, who preferred the company of Margaery’s brother, Loras. Her second marriage was to Joffrey Baratheon, who died at their wedding reception. To the best of our knowledge, Margaery never consummated either marriage. Yet having said that, her character still seems far from innocent, so is she still a virgin?
“My interpretation is that nothing ever happened [romantically],” Natalie tells Vulture regarding Margaery’s chastity. “I think she tried to get Renly into bed, and offered a threesome or whatever to get him moving, but nothing ever happened. It wasn't consummated in any capacity, at all ... But whether Margaery is a virgin or not is not synonymous with whether she slept with one of her two husbands. I mean, officially, Margaery is a virgin. Even Loras is ambiguous about whether Margaery is a virgin or not, but it's definite that she didn't sleep with either of her husbands.”
It sounds to us like Natalie is leaving open the possibility that Margaery has slept with someone, just not one of her husbands. If she has and it becomes known, will that affect her position politically? “It's not so much about promiscuous behavior — it's about keeping the bloodline pure,” Natalie says. “You want whoever is sitting on the throne to be of the heritage, of the genealogy of the family. So it's not just saying, ‘She's a whore.’ It's not a comfortable or pretty scenario for Margaery to be in at all.”
It sounds like there could be more to this story than we know! We’ll have to wait and see if any of Margaery’s theoretical romantic flings come to light in the future.
