We’ve already seen a few deaths on Game of Thrones Season 4, but now news comes that one of everyone’s favorite characters has made his last appearance of the season (though thankfully not by way of death). We can barely report the story, it has us so broken up.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Ser Pounce, the universally-loved cat belonging to Tommen Baratheon, will not be back this season after making one memorable performance. Oh Ser Pounce, we hardly knew ye. HBO says that Ser Pounce does not appear in any of the six remaining episodes in Season 4, but there is a possibility he could show up in Season 5.
In the A Song of Ice and Fire books, Ser Pounce is actually gifted to Tommen by Margaery, along with two other kittens: Boots and Lady Whiskers. While we know that Ser Pounce won’t be returning this season, perhaps we’ll still be treated to the latter two. With the show actively pursuing its own “Margaery gets on Tommen’s good side” storyline, perhaps she’ll gift him Boots and the good Lady Whiskers in order to curry favor with him, now that she knows he likes cats, thanks to Ser Pounce. We can only hope. GoT had been tragically low on cats ever since Arya was trying to catch them in Season 1, so more felines are definitely needed in Westeros.
