The Red Viper, Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal), has been one of the most intriguing new characters to debut on Game of Thrones in some time. He's come to King’s Landing looking for revenge against the Lannisters for the crimes they committed against his family, and the main object of his ire is Lannister bannerman Gregor Clegane, the Mountain.

We’ve seen in the trailer leading up to Season 4 that Oberyn does get his chance to fight the Mountain at some point, and Pedro recently shared what it was like to film their epic fight scene.

“It was a lot of fight choreography that was stuff I'd never done before,” Pedro told GQ. “I've never done anything as challenging as this. We filmed in Croatia at the Hotel Dubrovnik, which is basically abandoned — it was destroyed during the war. There was this amphitheater right over the water that the crew set beautifully. It was the most insane production team I'll probably ever work with. It was thrilling and scary, grueling and beautiful, and delicious, and fun. David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss], in their adaptation, still refuse to completely betray the books, but they keep surprises hidden.”

We’re more excited than ever for this fight scene knowing that showrunners David and Dan have some surprises in store for even those of us who have read A Storm of Swords, the book in which the fight occurs. We’ll have to wait a few weeks though, since we’re 99 percent sure the fight takes place in Episode 8, which is titled “The Mountain and the Viper”.
