Game of Thrones loves touting that no one on their show is safe. You know, Valar Morghulis and all that. However, readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series tend to take that insistence with a grain of salt, believing they know who survives based on what happens in the books. But maybe they shouldn’t be so smug.

Appearing on Conan, A Song of Ice and Fire series author George R. R. Martin discussed that very subject. “[The show is] killing characters who are still alive in the books,” Martin revealed. “So really, no one is safe. Even the book readers who say, ‘Well, this character is safe. He’s not in any trouble because he’s still in book 5,’ may have an unpleasant surprise.”

Oh no! We wonder who Martin is talking about? Hopefully no one important. If the show does kill someone this season who’s still alive in the books, it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done so. Several characters involved with Dany’s storyline, such as Pyat Pree, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, and the Dothraki Irri and Rakharo, are all alive and well as of the most recent book in the series, yet all four perished in Season 2 of GoT. And perhaps most notably, Robb Stark’s wife (Talisa in the show, Jeyne in the books) does not attend the Red Wedding in the books, and therefore does not get herself killed.

Who do you think will be killed this season that is still alive in the books? Let us know in the comments!
