The Seven Hells hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially if said woman is called a whore, as Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) found out in Game of Thrones Season 4, Episode 6, when Shae (Sibel Kekilli) testified against him at his trial. We know Shae was upset at Tyrion, but she must have understood that what he did he did to save her life, so why would she do something that she knew could get him killed?
Actress Sibel Kekilli believes Shae was stuck between a rock and a hard place. “Did [Shae] have a choice? The Lannisters found her and there was only a choice between agreeing to testify against Tyrion or die,” Sibel explains to the Daily Beast, before placing more of the blame at Tyrion’s feet. “Of course she was badly hurt and wanted revenge on him. She is a proud woman, she has always been fully loyal to Tyrion, and instead of maintaining her relationship he decided to go for power — and against love.” Perfectly viable reason to lie to have him killed.
Sibel reiterates that Shae’s choices were pretty limited, and her life was in shambles after Tyrion sent her away. “I don’t think that there was a real choice she could make. Life was always teaching her to fight, and to stay alive. So now after Tyrion destroyed all her hopes for a safe, loving family life, she finds herself again at the point where she was before meeting Tyrion,” Sibel opines. “And he hurt her so much, it was like spitting right into her face, so Shae would never just go away as if nothing really happened. She is simply at that point where she wants to take revenge for his actions.”
