Stannis (Stephen Dillane) hasn’t made a military move on Game of Thrones since Season 2’s “Blackwater,” when he unsuccessfully tried to take King’s Landing. With Stannis and Davos (Liam Cunningham) getting a loan from the Iron Bank of Braavos and gathering men, it sure seems like they’re planning to go somewhere, and the most likely candidate seems to be the Wall after the Season 3 finale where Stannis received word from Davos that the Night’s Watch needs their help. So is that where they’re going?
“As we know from Melisandre at the end of Season 3, [Davos] was going to be killed,” Liam Cunningham, who portrays Davos, tells Sky Atlantic. “And she bizarrely saved [Davos’] life because she saw in the flames that the real war, as she calls it, is not the skirmish that we’ve had with the Lannisters, the threat is north of the Wall. So that may have some bearing on what’s going on. Obviously Jon Snow is up there now and there’s a fair bit of trouble with the Wildlings.”
Liam is being a little coy here, but he does seem to be hinting at Stannis and Davos showing up at the Wall to help Jon Snow out with the Wildling problem. If they do go to battle again, at least we know the Wildlings don’t have any wildfire!
