Charlize Theron and Sean Penn might be happily together, but marriage is just not on Charlize’s radar. To her, her life is perfect the way it is, so we may never see her walk down the aisle.

“I’m sure some people would be like, ‘I would never want to have that life,’” Charlize, who stars in A Million Ways to Die in The West, tells Esquire UK. “I’m sue there’s a lot of aspects to my life that a lot of people wouldn’t want. Like the fact that I’m single at 38.”

True — for a lot of people, unmarried at almost 40 would be enough to throw them in a premature midlife crisis. But for Charlize, she has everything she needs, wedding ring not included. In her own words, “a life is good if it’s the life that you want.”

And besides, being a mom to her son, the adorable Jackson, who she adopted in 2012? That’s keeping her plenty busy.

“I wasn’t in any place that I even wanted something like [a relationship],” she says. “Then one day you go: Oh, [Jackson’s] almost two now, and he has his little activities that he goes to and he’s got a bedtime now, and you have more time again. And it’s like if you are open to something, if you just let it happen, it will happen. When you least expect it.”

“It was nice to be single,” she says. “Now it’s nice to be not single.”
