Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 9, “The Watchers on the Wall” reportedly takes place entirely at the Wall, and encompasses Mance Rayder’s attack. So what’s going to happen in the ensuing battle? Read on to find out!

In the books, the attack from the south on Castle Black and the main attack on the Wall from the north happen separately but in quick succession. However, the show appears to have both attacks coincide with each other, making things even rougher for the patchwork team of Night’s Watchmen stationed at Castle Black.

During the attack from the south, Jon Snow leads a rag tag group that somehow manages to get the better of the wildlings. The only downside to this? Ygritte dies. In the books she is felled by an unknown archer, but in the show we won’t be surprised if the kid whose parents Ygritte killed is the one who takes her out — he’s already mentioned he’s good with a bow. Jon finds Ygritte after the battle and the two share a tender moment, including one final, “You know nothing, Jon Snow.” Anyone who wanted a break from tears after Oberyn’s demise is episode 8 is likely to be sorely disappointed.

During the assault from the north, things won’t go quite so well for the Watch. Mance simply has too many men (and giants), and the Wall is in danger of being breached. That is until Stannis, that’s right, Stannis Baratheon, shows up with an army and kicks major wildling ass! Mance is captured, and Stannis sets up shop at the Wall, leading to some interesting developments in Season 5!
