All of the attention paid to the fight between Oberyn Martell and the Mountain in Game of Thrones Season 4, Episode 8, “The Mountain and the Viper” kind of glosses over another major event that occurred in the episode: the banishment of Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). Jorah and Dany have been BFFs since Season 1, and this feels like it’s going to be a big deal for her Dany’s character moving forward. Jorah was oftentimes the voice of reason for Dany, and the only one she would listen to when she would start to get a little cray. So did she make a mistake in kicking him out of Meereen?

At least one person thinks Dany should have forgiven Jorah: Emilia Clarke. “Jorah’s been with me since day one, season one,” Emilia tells Entertainment Weekly. “The scene itself is unpleasant because I — Emilia — know that what Dany is doing is wrong, And it was the first time I’ve ever felt that.” That’s saying something considering some of the other crazy stuff Dany’s done, like, oh, crucifying 160 people alive.

“I’m looking at Ian Glen thinking: ‘Don’t leave!’” Emilia continues. “I’m banishing him and all I want to do is cling to his ankles. It was really hard it marked one of the biggest decisions of this character to date.”
