When we last see Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) in Game of Thrones Season 4, he has just reached his ultimate destination of the Three-Eyed Raven after fending off skeleton warriors with the help of a flame-throwing Child of the Forest. Bran’s storyline appears to have gone full-on high fantasy, so what should we expect to see from him in Season 5? The A Song of Ice and Fire books give us a clue.

Based on the books, Bran should spend next season training with the Three-Eyed Raven. Bran will learn what it is he’s supposed to do (become the next Three-Eyed Raven, basically) and explore his powers.

While in the magical cave we saw in the finale, Bran has the ability to look through weirwood trees throughout the world and view the past, present, and future. This could potentially open the door for the show to depict flashbacks (certain events of the past are much more pronounced and important in the books), which is something the show has never done and could go a long way towards explaining where some characters come from. One tantalizing prospect is that Bran could learn the truth about Jon Snow’s parentage from one of these visions, which is something the books have not yet revealed.

In any case, Bran only has about one or two chapters that are yet to be adapted in the show, so it’s likely we’ll get either some invented story for Bran in Season 5, or the show will start to outpace the books in regard to his story. Let the months of wild speculation begin!
