When we last saw Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) on Game of Thrones Season 4, he was releasing his brother Tyrion from prison. Tyrion then of course went on to kill his father, who happened to be running the kingdom, before he escaped.

We have a feeling there will be repercussions for this, so will Jaime find himself in hot water in Season 5? A combo of book and show spoilers give us an idea of what to expect from this fan fave.

In the books, no one suspects Jaime of any wrongdoing. Since Varys disappears the same time Tyrion does, he is incriminated, but Jaime gets away scot-free.

Also, at this point in the story in the books, Jaime and Cersei’s relationship is over because Tyrion had told Jaime that Cersei has been unfaithful, but the two are still an item on the show. We’re fairly certain their relationship ends next season, we’re just not sure how it happens. Does Jaime find out about Cersei’s infidelity some other way? Does Cersei find out Jaime released Tyrion? Does Jaime just finally realize that Cersei’s an awful person? There are a lot of directions the show could go with this, but we don’t see Cersei and Jaime together by the end of Season 5.

As far as what Jaime actually does next season, the books don’t give us much to work with. Jaime goes to the Riverlands to snuff out the last bit of war being raged by the Tullys, and that’s it. There’s little going on, and it looks like the show is inventing more things for Jaime to do. Based on set photos, we know that Jaime heads to Dorne with Bronn, serving as our introduction to that region and its characters. This is a storyline that doesn’t even come close to happening in the books, so we’re excited to see how it plays out.
