One notable absence from Game of Thrones Season 4 was Gendry, the bastard of Robert Baratheon, played by Joe Dempsie. Gendry sailed away from Dragonstone after being set free by Davos in Season 3, and we haven’t seen him since. So where in seven hells is he?

Well, if you think back to Season 3, Gendry specified that he had never been in a boat before and didn’t really know what he was doing, and according to Joe Dempsie, that’s the reason we haven’t seen him around lately.

Joe recently tweeted: “Still rowin’ #GOT,” implying that Gendry spent the entirety of Season 4 rowing his little boat, which is a pretty funny image that we hope exists as a deleted scene somewhere. Come to think of it, that could have actually been a great way for Season 4 to end: after Arya boards her boat to Braavos, we could see Gendry silently row by as the credits roll. Come on, HBO, get on this!

For those who hope Gendry will put down his oars long enough to be in Season 5, we’re not sure it’s going to happen. In the books, Gendry is only seen again in a bit part with the Brotherhood Without Banners, but since they sold him in the show, we don’t see him returning to them. The other character from the books whom Gendry is basically playing, Edric Storm, rowed away from Dragonstone and is said to be hiding out in the Free City of Lys. Perhaps Gendry ends up in a different Free City in Season 5, Braavos, where he runs into Arya? Gendry/Arya shippers can dream, right?
