Cersei Lannister had better watch her back on Game of Thrones, there’s a new queen coming to Westeros.
People reports that Queen Elizabeth herself, and her husband, Prince Philip, will be taking a tour of the Game of Thrones set in Belfast, North Ireland. The British Monarchy Twitter account (yes, that’s a thing, they’re even verified) made the official announcement, tweeting, “As part of the visit to Northern Ireland The Queen and The Duke will tour the @GameOfThrones set in the Titanic quarter #Belfast #GoT.”
Ok, so it doesn’t sound like the queen is going to Northern Ireland (which is part of the UK) just to visit the GoT set, but it’s pretty cool that she’s going there at all. While it’s perfectly likely that she’s never seen an episode, we like to imagine that she’s a huge fan who’s been pestering her handlers to let her visit the set ever since the show debuted. Maybe she’ll even do a guest spot and go toe to toe with the Queen of Thorns (Diana Rigg).
While we’re a little disappointed the queen is visiting the Belfast set and not the Dubrovnik set, which is where King’s Landing scenes are filmed, we’re hoping there will still be a replica Iron Throne present for the queen to sit in because honestly, how awesome would that be?
