In the Game of Thrones Season 4 finale, we witnessed the execution of the most powerful man in Westeros, Tywin Lannister. This follows the earlier Season 4 death of King Joffrey, signaling that the once-invincible Lannisters are just as mortal as everyone else. So will Cersei (Lena Headey) be the next lion to be picked off, in Season 5?

If the books are any indication, Cersei’s going to have a tough time in Season 5. With Tywin out of the way, she’s now running the show, and she makes some pretty poor decisions. Her biggest is without a doubt accusing Margaery of infidelity without a shred of evidence. Cersei herself is the poster child for infidelity, and she in turn finds herself accused. The punishment if she is found guilty: death. So will she find her head on a chopping block in Season 5?

Nah. If the plot gets that far, Cersei will be stripped of her power, and also stripped of her clothes and forced to walk naked through the streets of King’s Landing, but she still has to stand trial even after that.

For her trial, she requests a trial by combat, where Ser Robert Strong (the reanimated Mountain) will stand for her. Her trial hasn’t occurred in the books yet, but in the unlikely event that Strong loses, Cersei could find herself executed. We don’t expect her trial to be until Season 6 at the earliest though, so Cersei should still be alive and (not so) well by the end of Season 5.
