In the Game of Thrones Season 4 finale, we saw Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) become more ruthless than she’s ever been when she left her BFF the Hound to suffer and die. She then boarded a boat to Braavos, heading to a mysterious place full of strangers. Arya’s certainly come a long way from the feisty little girl we met in Season 1, and we’re wondering how much more the character will change in Season 5. Luckily, Maisie Williams, who portrays Arya, is chiming in on that subject.
“She kind of gave up on her family a little while ago, on the fact that she’s actually going to get home, a little while ago, and since then, she’s been trying to find what she’s going to do next,” Maisie tells Access Hollywood about Arya’s motivations. “I don’t think she likes to be in the same place for too long, not just because of safety, but because she doesn’t really fit anywhere any more.”
Maisie also chatted with The Daily Beast, and hinted that she thinks we'll see the feisty youngster "become someone new" now that she's left everything behind.
Even book fans shouldn't rest assured that they know what happens to Arya next. Maisie hinted to Access Hollywood that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss don’t necessarily have to stick to the storyline laid out in A Song of Ice and Fire.
“The possibilities for Arya’s future are kind of — there’s so many different ways that this could kind of go now and we do have a book, obviously, to go by. But, you know, they can literally do anything,” Maisie reveals. “This is a fresh start for Arya and they could choose to go with the books or they could write something completely new and that’s what I’m really excited to see.”
