In the Season 4 finale of Game of Thrones, Bran Stark finally reaches his destiny and meets the Three-Eye Raven, which turns out to be an old man in a tree. Now that Bran looks like he’s fulfilling his purpose in life, will he die in Season 5 after doing whatever it is he’s there to do?

The show has largely caught up with the books in terms of Bran’s storyline, which leaves us a little in the dark as to what’s going to happen to him moving forward. In the books, Bran begins training to take the Three-Eyed Raven’s place, which grants him the ability to see into the past, present, and future, and to communicate, all through weirwood trees. Some fans think the show will use this opportunity to show some much-needed flashbacks to help flesh out the backstory of the characters (cough, Rhaegar Targaryen, cough), but at this point we’re not sure where they’re going.

It’s highly likely that the show will surpass Bran’s storyline from A Dance with Dragons and either invent material for him or pull from the still unpublished The Winds of Winter. Whatever the case may be, we don’t expect Bran to die in Season 5. While this is Game of Thrones and no one is truly safe, Bran appears to be in as safe a place as you can get. However, Bran’s screentime (and page time in the books) has diminished considerably since Season 1/book 1, so maybe George R. R. Martin is trying to tell us something. But we’ll have to wait until Season 5 (or Winds of Winter, jk) to find out.
