With two (at least) giant books still to be written in A Song of Ice and Fire, the series Game of Thrones is based on, the question on everyone’s mind is, “Does author George R. R. Martin really know how it’s all going to end?” The answer to that question, thankfully, is yes.

“I know the end,” George tells French radio station Le Mouv’. “I know what’s going to happen to the main characters anyway, there’s a few secondary characters that I’m still trying to figure out should they live, should they die? But will they wind up with the main characters, I’ve known for a decade.”

While we had previously reported that GoT showrunners received the basic arc for each character from George in case the show passes the books (which it almost certainly will), it’s interesting for us to hear that George doesn’t know the fate of several “secondary” characters. What qualifies as a secondary character? Is Melisandre secondary? Is Littlefinger secondary? Is Davos secondary? Or is he talking more about very minor characters like Dolorous Edd and Thoros of Myr? Whatever the case, this certainly lends credence to the idea that the books and show won’t necessarily have the same ending, so book fans may be able to watch the show and remain unspoiled.
