Game of Thrones has a ton of characters, and it can be hard to keep track of everyone, but one guy whom we definitely missed in Season 4 was Gendry. Arya’s old BFF hasn’t been seen since Season 3 when Davos sent him away from Dragonstone in a rowboat, but will he finally pop up again in Season 5?

Predicting Gendry’s reemergence is a bit tricky. The show has combined his character with another one of Robert Baratheon’s bastards from the books, Edric Storm, so we’re not sure where, or if, we’ll see Gendry again. In the books, the Brotherhood Without Banners never sells Gendry to Melisandre. In fact, he never even meets Mel. Gendry stays with the Brotherhood and we don’t see him again until he saves Brienne from Biter during a brawl and brings Brienne to Lady Stoneheart to stand trial. But in the show, Biter is already dead, Gendry is not with the BWB, and it appears Lady Stoneheart is cut from the show, so they’re going to have to find something else for Gendry to do, if he does come back.

Gendry’s other influence from the books, Edric Storm, is mentioned again briefly after being freed by Davos. He is hiding out in Essos, in the Free City of Lys. While Lys and Braavos aren’t exactly close to each other on a map, they are both Free Cities of Essos and could easily be swapped out for one another. With Arya going to Braavos, how great would it be for her to randomly bump into Gendry?

While we’re hoping for an Arya/Gendry reunion, it’s purely speculation at this point, but actor Joe Dempsie has his own thoughts on where Gendry is. We’ll have to keep our eyes open for casting news, but as of right now we’re not sure if we’ll see Gendry in Season 5 or not.
