Game of Thrones Season 5 filming is expected to begin any day now (if it hasn’t begun already) and the show is constantly locking down new locations in which to shoot. One rumored location that has now been officially confirmed is the city of Sibenik, Croatia.

Town officials confirmed that GoT will be filming in the city come September, but it hasn’t been easy for the show to gain approval. Reports claim that the show has had difficulty securing permission to film in one location under control of the local diocese, since the Bishop objects to the R-rated content of the show.

While we’re not sure which location in Sibenik they’re having trouble with, Winter Is Coming theorizes it’s the Cathedral of St. James, which was constructed between 1431 and 1536, since it fits the bill of having a distinct “portal” through which characters would pass. The location is said to be a very important one for the new season, and representatives from the show are holding meetings this week to try and resolve the issue.

Hopefully the show can work out whatever problems the Diocese of Sibenik have and gain access to the building because it’s a pretty awesome-looking location, and one that would definitely fit into the epic world of Game of Thrones.
