Ser Davos Seaworth is one of most honorable characters on Game of Thrones. Because of this, he’s constantly finding himself in hot water, since doing the right thing in Westeros is a fool’s errand. With Davos getting by by the skin of his teeth so many times already, will his luck finally run out in Season 5?

If the show closely follows the books next season, it’s going to look like Davos dies. Now before you start freaking out, we just said it’s going to look like he dies.

Here’s what happens in the books. Stannis sends letters to all of the Northern Lords looking for support since he just saved them all from the Wildlings, but in return he hears crickets. So he decides to send Davos to White Harbor to treat with Wyman Manderly, one of the most powerful Northern Lords, to get him on his side.

When he arrives in White Harbor, Davos is treated like garbage and imprisoned by Lord Manderly. He then displays Davos’s head (with an onion in his mouth) along with his iconic fingerless hands on his wall, and sends word to Cersei that Davos has been executed.

However, it’s all a show for the Freys hanging around White Harbor. Lord Manderly has a Davos lookalike killed (cruel, but hey) and confesses to Davos that he wants revenge for the Red Wedding, where his son, and his king (Robb), were killed. He tells Davos that if he can locate Rickon Stark and return him safely to White Harbor, where he’ll be groomed to rule from Winterfell, then he will support Stannis’s claim.

So even though things will appear rough for Davos, it’s all going to work out for him... at least until he goes looking for Rickon.
