We’ve gotten pretty used to Game of Thrones breaking records. Just this past season it became the most-watched show HBO has ever produced, and now the show has entered the Guinness Book of World Records... but for what?

Not surprisingly, the show now officially owns the world record as the most-pirated TV show. The show consistently breaks its own records when it comes to illegal online downloads, so it was only a matter of time before Guinness officially recognized their dominance in the dubious category.

Guinness made the announcement ahead of their upcoming 2015 edition’s release, stating, “Records also tumbled on television. The hugely popular HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones makes its way into the 2015 book as the Most Pirated TV Program. GoT retained its spot atop Torrent Freak’s top 10 list of most pirated TV shows, with 5.9 million downloads per episode. HBO and Warner Bros. executives have controversially stated that, ‘receiving the title of the most-pirated was better than an Emmy,’ creating a ‘much needed cultural buzz.’”

The accolade comes at a good time for the show, which was recently snubbed by the Emmys in all of the major categories despite garnering 19 total nominations (it did manage to collect 4 awards in technical categories). Pirates are cooler than Emmys anyway.
